What does Pride mean to me?

One of the many reasons I love being at the Morean Arts Center is that we promote and encourage all people to discover the artist within.  Artists are constantly searching for their authentic self, their unique voice, and expressive character.

For LGBTQ people, the arts have long been a place of refuge and acceptance—a place of freedom to live an expressive life.  As I often say, it takes true courage to create—but it can take even greater courage to be honest with the world about who you are and who you love.

We are committed to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion, and welcome all people.  And, we offer the encouragement (and the training) to find your expressive self.

Our curatorial team is walking the walk this year by launching our first-ever Pride Pop Up show in our gallery store to honor local artists during St. Pete Pride week.  You have to check it out—and it’s free!

This is the first of many new efforts to help ensure that we reflect the community we proudly serve.  So please, show us your Pride, and join us.  Artists have an important role to play in helping us understand that diversity is our strength.
