The Morean Arts Center Partners with Pinellas Public Library Cooperative to Offer Free Admission Passes

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Morean Arts Center (MAC) has partnered with the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative (PPLC) to offer Pinellas County library cardholders and their families free admission to the Chihuly Collection. Library cardholders will have the opportunity to check out a museum pass to the Chihuly Collection from a participating PPLC member library and its branches. Each branch will have two passes available for check out on a first-come, first-served basis. Each pass is valid for up to 2 adults and 3 children under the age of 18, in the same household. Passes are valid for one visit within a seven-day loan period and have a check-out limit of one pass per family. Chihuly Collection passes become available July 1, 2018.

The partnership signifies a unique occasion for the MAC and the PPLC to connect people with art. Andy Schlauch, Executive Director of the Chihuly Collection, says “We’re very excited to be participating in this program with the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative. We want to give our local community more opportunities to bring their friends and family to the Chihuly Collection.”

With admission to the Chihuly Collection, visitors can enjoy temporary, rotating exhibitions from other amazing artists from around the world. Storytellers is an exhibition of artists that utilize or imply narrative in glass and is currently on view through October 31. Visitors can also experience a live glassblowing demonstration at the Morean Glass Studio & Hot Shop, giving visitors a deeper understanding of the craft (included in the museum pass).

Dale Chihuly’s passion and support of children’s art education was a prime reason for choosing St. Petersburg as the home for the Chihuly Collection. All net proceeds stay local to St. Petersburg to help support and sustain the educational programs at the Morean Arts Center.

According to PPLC Executive Director, Cheryl Morales, “Dale Chihuly is a National Treasure! As one of our country’s preeminent artist, Chihuly’s work has the power to influence people’s perceptions. From small glass forms to large architectural installations, Chihuly’s work can be seen around the world. Now, Pinellas County residents have a remarkable opportunity to spend time with his sculptures. Through the generosity of the Morean Arts Center, PPLC Library cardholders can borrow a pass to visit the Chihuly Collection for free. We all hope everyone takes full advantage of this fabulous opportunity!”

The Chihuly Collection will now join the Museum of Fine Arts, the Florida Holocaust Museum, and the Great Explorations Children’s Museum as an official partner of the PPLC Museum Partnership. The Chihuly Collection is open Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sunday, 12 – 5 p.m. For more information on Morean Arts Center, please visit MoreanArtsCenter.org.
