Morean has family friendly lineup for Labor Day weekend

St. Petersburg, FL (Aug. 31 thru Sep. 1, 2019) – The Morean Arts Center and Morean Center for Clay will host several FREE family art opportunities on Saturday and Sunday before closing for the Monday of Labor Day Weekend. The Chihuly Collection and the Morean Glass Shop will maintain their weekend and holiday schedule of paid admission tours and demos.

Saturday, August 31

FREE: Saturdays at the Morean, 719 Central Ave., St. Petersburg

Bank of America Children’s Learning Center

Artist Sherri Lundquist will guide children ages 5 to 10 accompanied by a parent or guardian in the experience of bubble printing. Materials and supplies are provided and instruction begins at 10 am, is closed from 12:30 to 1 pm, and resumes with project work up until 3:30 pm.

Between 9 am and 5 pm

This is Me: Self Portraits of Morean Members runs thru mid-September. The Morean Arts Center also features a gift shop. Shoppers who are wandering the Central Avenue area may also visit the largest glass art shop in Tampa Bay at the retail gallery of the Morean Glass Studio, located behind the Morean Arts Center. Across the street they can peruse an elegant retail display area of The Chihuly Collection and curated local art.

Between 10 am and 5 pm

The Center for Clay is currently featuring a Member’s Show and in the Middle Gallery, visitors can enjoy the art created and the exhibit curated by youth participating in the Center for Clay’s summer camp. The 47 working artists with studios at the Center also have a wide selection of hand-made pottery and sculpture on sale in their retail Corridors.

Last weekend for 2019: Military Visit FREE (May 18 - September 2) We are a Blue Star Museum! Active Military and their families (up to five family members) are welcome to the Chihuly Collection, Morean Glass Studio, Morean Arts Center and Morean Center Clay at no charge. Qualified members must show a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card for entrance. The military ID holder can be either active duty service member or other dependent family member with the appropriate ID card. The active duty member does not have to be present for family members to use the program.

Ticketed events and demos:

The Chihuly Collection offers FREE admission for children under 5; $19.95 adult; Senior and Military discounts to $17.95 and students with college ID or ages 6 to 18 are $12.95. Tickets include admission to the Morean Glass Studio and demonstrations hosted by glass artists in the hot shop at 1, 2, 3 and 4

pm. Through the Museums for All program, a minimal admission rate of $3.00 per person is offered with the presentation of an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card or a Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) benefit card.

Sunday, September 1

FREE: Sundays at the Morean Center for Clay, 420 22nd Street South, St. Petersburg

From 1 to 3 pm

Fun with Clay is a two-hour fun filled hands on activity with artist Danny Dobrow.
