ART CAMP (Ages 7-10)

719 Central Ave, St Petersburg FL 33701

Campers will travel through a wide range of media, rotating between two different classrooms and two different teaching artists. Children will learn art processes, explore basic art concepts and skills, and learn the proper care for art tools and materials. Our summer camp art teachers use selected weekly themes to create hands-on art experiences that focus on the learning process as well as the final works of art. While final works of art will head home on Fridays, each group will also create a collaborative piece of art that will be displayed in our summer camp exhibition in the Risser Gallery.

*Please be aware that there is no outside play area at Art Camp. Campers will remain inside all day. If outside time is important for your child, please look into Clay Camp, where we do have an outside play area.*

Hot Shop Demo: Each Thursday, all 7-10 year old campers will have the opportunity to view a glassblowing demonstration in our very own Hot Shop.

The Glass Lab: All 7-10 year old art campers will have the opportunity to work with a glass artist during their week of camp--learning the art of fused glass and creating a one-of-a-kind piece to take home at the end of the week.

15 children per classroom with 1 lead teacher and teenage volunteers.
After lunch each day, campers will switch teachers and classrooms.

CLAY CAMP (Ages 7-10)

420 22nd St S, St Petersburg FL 33712

On the first two days of camp, campers will work from the theme of the week. Their work then goes off to the kiln to be fired and finishing touches will be added at the end of the week. Students will take home individual projects on Fridays. All ages will also help create art for our community, to be displayed in places such as All Children's Hospital and along The Pinellas Trail. Campers will learn the hand building techniques of pinch, coil, and slab. Please note that wheel-throwing is not covered in 7-10 year old camp--wheel-throwing begins at age 11 in our teen clay camp--your 7-10 year olds can expect to have lots of hand building fun!

*Please wear sunblock as campers will be outside for part of the day.*

First Night Puppet-Making: On Wednesdays of each week, all clay campers will contribute to a large-scale puppet-making project. Completed puppets will be featured in St Petersburg's First Night Parade on December 31, 2017!

On the Trail! Clay campers get early experience in creating public art. Every week, classes collaborate to create large, themed art works to hang on the Pinellas Trail where it passes the Morean Center for Clay.

Wacky Wednesday! Every Wednesday: Dress silly! Wacky hair! Good old-fashioned fun.

15 children per classroom, with 1 lead teacher and teenage volunteers.
