Teenagers have many creative camp options at the Morean!

CLAY Camp is offered at the Morean Center for Clay at 420 22nd St S
All other ART Camps are offered at the Morean Arts Center at 719 Central Ave

Camp is offered in a weekly format (you must register for the entire week). Choose only 1 camp option per week.

Camp days run from 9am-3pm.  Extended care is available for an additional fee.
(Before Care is available at ART CAMP ONLY, beginning at 8am, $5/day. After Care is available at BOTH Art and Clay Camp, until 5:30pm, $15/day.)

Maker's Space (Instructors: Brenda Gregory and Sara Norine)
Students will explore media and traditional craft techniques while creating original art pieces. Jewelry, Sewing, Paper Clay, Metal, Leather Tooling, Felting, Sewing and other techniques will be explored in a supported studio environment. This camp will emphasize fundamental design concepts as students sculpt, stitch, stamp, string, and explore color and texture.

Explore glassblowing, lamp-working, and glass fusing through concentrated instruction from our visual arts faculty culminating with a visit to the Chihuly Collection. Try out new ideas, learn the language and explore various processes while exploring all possibilities of glass.
This camp is offered multiple times over the course of the summer. It is recommended to register for only 1 week of Glass camp as the curriculum will be repeated week-to week.

Teen Pinhole & Darkroom Photography camp offers the opportunity to create and use a pinhole camera as well as the experience of shooting photographs with a film camera and learning to develop prints in the Morean's recently re-built darkroom! An exciting blend of art and science.
This camp is offered multiple times over the course of the summer. It is recommended to register for only 1 week of Photo camp as the curriculum will be repeated week-to week.

Screen Printing (Instructor: Sara Norine)
In this 4-day camp, we will each burn one screen using photo emulsion and a light table. This screen can be used to print dozens of shirts with the same design. We will also learn how to hand paint screens, use paper stencils, and other methods of transferring designs to cloth.

Free Art Friday (Instructor: Jennifer Kosharek)
Have you always wanted to take part in the Free Art Friday scene? Join us as we learn about the inventor of Free Art Friday and the reasons why people have gotten involved in this international movement. We will use these four days to create art that will be left on Friday for others to find! Student will focus on Artist Trading Cards, small works, and post-it note mini-murals. This is a great way to get into the movement of Free Art Friday.

In this supported studio environment, we will weave baskets, explore embroidery, Kumihimo, and various processes using yarn. We will support each other in our own unique design projects and integrate fiber art materials such as cloth, raw wool, yarn, ribbon, thread, and other textiles.

Playing with Fire... Jewelry Intensive (Instructor: Brenda Gregory)
Students will learn basic skills in Metalsmithing while being introduced to equipment, materials, tools, studio safety, and basic design. The fundamental jewelry making skills of filing, sawing, texturing with a rolling mill, and torch soldering will be developed. Each week new skills will be incorporated into a new project. Students will complete 2-3 pieces of jewelry using copper, brass and sterling silver.

Mail Art (Instructor: Jennifer Kosharek)
During the 1950s, Ray Johnson created Mail Art and is considered to be the father of this art form. The idea of Mail Art continues today through the International Eternal Network. Join us during this week as we learn the history of Mail Art and the many techniques that Mail Artists use such as: add and pass, faux stamps, rubber stamps, visual poetry, and collage. Some of our creations will be sent to actual Mail Art shows.

Steampunk (Instructor: Brenda Gregory)
Mixing modern ideas and technology with those from the past, Steampunk art is a great way to make a common object into a work of art. Kids will use mostly found & recycled objects as well as broken toys to create new and exciting gadgets. Students will learn a variety of faux painting techniques and basic metal & woodworking.

Soft Plush Creature Creations (Instructor: Jennifer Kosharek)
Your own character drawing comes to life as a 3-D plush, soft sculpture. Spend a week with Jennifer Kosharek and take your idea from drawing to pattern to an original plush creature. Hand sewing and fabric glue will be used.
