As the in house designer for the the Glass Studio & Hot Shop at the Morean Arts Center I was tasked with creating a shirt to sell in our Glass Store.
I began the process by using my iPhone to take some photographs during one of the glassblowing demonstrations performed by Pauli Nelson Maiville and Doug "Firebug" Taylor, and then synced the photos to my iPad.
Using Adobe Collage, I created an inspiration board of these photos to brainstorm several ideas. Also included in the collage are photos taken by bwlphotography.com.
Once I had a layout in mind, I opened a new file in Adobe Ideas based on the best photo and began drawing with a Wacom Bamboo Stylus.
Using multiple layers, one for each color, the illustration was developed into an almost finished product. Colors were selected from the initial collage and I referenced the photos often for accuracy.
Creative Cloud synced the file to my computer automatically and I opened the file in Illustrator CS6 for finessing.
There were only a couple steps necessary to prepare the file for screen printing.
By using the Select->Same->Fill Color feature as well as the Pathfinder Tool, I was able to merge each color into individual shapes. For a cleaner final product I went through and minimized the number of points that had been created until I was satisfied with the results.
From there I simply created a second Artboard to design the back to the shirt and exported them as print ready PDFs.
