“98th Annual Members’ Show”

Premieres July 9

Featuring the most entries in seven years for this exhibition

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – More than 200 Morean Arts Center members will have their work showcased during the “98th Annual Members’ Show” at Morean Arts Center, from July 9 through August 13, 2016.

The exhibition premieres from 5 PM to 9 PM Saturday, July 9, coinciding with the city’s monthly “Second Saturday ArtWalk.” The premiere offers free admission and free parking. Morean Arts Center Gallery is located at 719 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg.

“Our members are the heart and soul of the Morean, and both the quality and quantity of this show make it the most popular one we do all year,” says Amanda Cooper, curator of exhibitions. “This year, we have nearly two hundred-fifty entries – which is fifty more entries than last year and the most overall entries we’ve had in seven years.”

Cooper says nearly one quarter of the artists in this exhibition are new to the Members’ Show, which makes it even more exciting and fresh for everyone involved.

“A special thanks to Joanna Rebotham, the new curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Tampa Museum of Art, who is serving as this year’s judge,” adds Cooper. “I’m happy to introduce her to all of our local talent and we we are expecting a wonderful premiere and overall exhibition.”

As an added bonus to this year’s 98th Annual Members’ Show, this is artist Alan Johnson’s first solo show in a local gallery in nearly 30 years. His last solo show was in 1989 at the Arts Center (prior to being named Morean Arts Center).

“We’re really happy to share Alan Johnson’s new body of ceramic sculpture with our community, and we’re always happy to support an artist who is connected to our organization’s history in such a strong way as Alan over many decades,” says Cooper.
