NEW Temporary Exhibition to Open at the Chihuly Collection
Shayna Leib: Into the Deep
Studies in Motion
St. Petersburg, Fla. – The Chihuly Collection presented by the Morean Arts Center is excited to announce Shayna Leib as its next featured glass artist, immediately following Ethan Stern: Inscribing Surfaces, which closed January 31. Shayna Leib: Into the Deep: Studies in Motion will open to the public, Friday, February 9 during Sunshine Glass Week.
An artist, diver and underwater photographer, Shayna Leib developed a passion for deep water diving on the Pacific Coast. Into the Deep: Studies in Motion is a unique show, featuring photography and glass works inspired by the underwater world. She works in a variety of mediums including ceramic, stone, metal, photography and fabric. Glass is a personal preference though, due to its ability to express flow and manipulate optics.
According to the Art Alliance of Contemporary Glass, “Shayna Leib continues to reach new heights in her multi-faceted career as an artist and teacher. She takes aquatic life forms as her primary focus of inspiration for her colorful and evocative art works. Shayna has an intelligent sense of design, immense skill and a deep understanding of glass. She creates works that are unique, thoughtful and exude exquisite beauty.”
The Chihuly Collection continuously showcases glass artists from around the country in rotating exhibitions. “We truly look forward to sharing Shayna’s work with our guests, locals and tourists alike, her inspiration compliments the Tampa Bay area perfectly,” states Andy Schlauch, Chihuly Collection Executive Director. “Shayna’s work exudes a natural flow, just like being on the water, there is a natural calm to her sculptures, and seeing underwater photography next to her intricate glass works is truly inspiring.”
Sunshine Glass Week (February 5-11) is a week-long festival celebrating St. Petersburg’s vibrant glass community which features ongoing demonstrations, lectures, workshops, classes & studio tours at local venues throughout the city. The Chihuly Collection is proud to present the opening of Shayna’s newest exhibition as one of the events featured during Sunshine Glass Week.
Entry to Shayna Leib: Into the Deep: Studies in Motion is included with general admission to the Chihuly Collection along with live glassblowing demonstrations by local artists at the Morean Glass Studio & Hot Shop across the street at the Morean Arts Center. The exhibition will be on view February 9 through May 12, 2018.
