Summer Camp 2020 & New FAB Art Kits: Ages 11-16

Ages 11-16

Teenagers have many creative camp options at the Morean!
GLASS Camp (719 Central Ave), many different ART Camps (719 Central Ave), & CLAY Camp (420 22nd St S).

Camp is offered in a weekly format (you must register for the entire week). Camp days run from 9am-3pm. 
Extended care is available for an additional fee. Before Care is available at ART CAMP ONLY, beginning at 8am for $5/day. After Care is available at BOTH Art and Clay Camp, running until 5:30pm for $15/day.

Camp cost includes all materials.

WEEK 1 (June 1-26)
4 weeks with 2 online classes

Tuesdays & Thursdays 12 noon to 1 pm

Teens will explore the art of image making through multiple photographic techniques, in this Online Photo Camp!

This course will utilize both independent study, as well as online methods of learning.

Each camper will receive an “Art Box” at the beginning of the week with all the supplies and tools they will need for an exciting, fun-filled week of film exploration. Campers will watch instructional videos, utilize independent photo walk-abouts to apply their knowledge, participate in photo scavenger hunts, use “time traveling” techniques to delve deeper into the history of the art of photography and take part in daily zoom meetings with their peers and instructor to further expand on their lesson and provide artistic critiques of their work. Each camper will create their own images that will be turned into the instructor at the Morean at the end of the week to be processed, printed and scanned.

“Art Box” will include:

Pinhole Cameras, One time Use Ilford B&W Cameras, Nature Print Sun Sensitive Paper, Cyanotype Notecard kits, and more!

WEEK 2 (June 8-12)
Monday-Friday

Teens will explore the art of image making through multiple photographic techniques, in this Online Photo Camp!

Pinhole & Darkroom Photography

Teen Pinhole & Darkroom Photography camp offers the opportunity to create and use a pinhole camera as well as the experience of shooting photographs with a film camera and learning to develop prints in a darkroom! An exciting blend of art and science.

This camp is offered multiple times over the course of the summer. It is recommended to register for only 1 week of Photo camp as the curriculum will be repeated week-to week.

Students will learn basic skills in Metalsmithing while being introduced to equipment, materials, tools, studio safety, and basic design. The fundamental jewelry making skills of filing, sawing, texturing with a rolling mill and torch soldering will be developed. Each week new skills will be incorporated into a new project. Students will complete 2-3 pieces of jewelry using copper, brass and sterling silver. Playing with Fire is offered several times throughout the summer. Recommended to register for only 1 week, as the curriculum will be repeated week-to-week.

Digital Animation Basics

Learn how to create simple 2D Digital animations. Students will learn animation principal, story boards and how to develop a story. They will learn how cartoons are made and develop ideas of their own!

This camp will focus on art that is created using paper. If you’re interested in seeing how paper can be used beyond just drawing or painting on top of, this camp is for you! We will learn how to create 3D artwork through folding, wrapping, quilling, and paper making techniques. Students will also explore papercutting techniques to create intricate designs for display or in bookmaking. Students will enjoy learning how this everyday art material paper can transform their ideas from both on and literally off the page!

Maker's Space

Students will explore media and traditional craft techniques while creating original art pieces. Jewelry, Sewing, Paper Clay, Metal, Leather Tooling, Felting, Sewing and other techniques will be explored in a supported studio environment. This class will emphasize fundamental design concepts as students sculpt, stitch, stamp, string, and explore color and texture.

Figure Drawing For Kids - Campers learn how to draw the male and female figure, whether realistic, anime or cartoon, along with different clothing styles

The Drawing Summer Camp series for kids is a weekly workshop that features different drawing themes each week. On Mondays students learn the weekly subject, with a brief online meeting on Wednesday to touch base on progress, then a final online meeting online on Friday. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the instructor sends out emails with helpful and inspiring links and resources to keep students motivated and engaged.

During the class, campers are guided and encouraged based on their skill levels; there is no pressure to “keep up” with other students or deadlines, and campers are in charge of their progress. No one is forced to participate.

Screen Printing

Ever wonder how t-shirts are printed? After this camp, you will have designed one yourself! Screen Printing is an art with many scientific steps. We will start by experimenting with screens and printing ink. Then each student will design and create a screen that they can use to print multiple tshirts and posters. Paper and an assortment of practice shirts will be available. Students may want to bring some of their own shirts to print for friends and family.

Animation

Whether your camper  is an aspiring programmer, future digital artist, or just interested in technology and fun, Teen Animation Camp offer skills to bring kids to the next level in digital technology.  Campers will explore script writing, storyboarding, stop motion claymation and digital animation. Students do not need to know anything about animation to attend this camp but we welcome those with experience as well. Instructor Paula Allen, MFA Film.

Mixed Media Journaling and Book Arts

If you like to spend time with paper, pens, markers, paints, glue and other 2-d medium, this is the class for you! In this supported studio environment, students will layer various techniques like doodling, drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, creative lettering and bullet journaling. We will also learn about book binding and zine structures with the goal of creating artful books from the inside out.
